Square Up
Now you’ve mastered the bow tie and are well on your way to outstripping your friends in sartorial elegance, what's next? After all a bow tie may not be suitable for every occasion and everybody needs a bit of variety in their wardrobe.
The Pocket Square is a simple and eye catching answer. Commonly known as a handkerchief, when placed into the top outside pocket of your suit jacket it transforms from being at the forefront of the battle against swine flu (Catch it! Kill it! Shove it back in your pocket!) into the noble pocket square. With the black, grey and navy suits predominant, a simple silk handkerchief in a statement colour can really lift any outfit.
Whether you fold it neatly to create a cool crisp line, or shove the centre into the pocket leaving a flourish of colour is up to you and the look you want to create. In fact if you Google pocket squares you’ll soon find the ways in which you can wear them are as limitless as the colours and patterns that the squares themselves come in.
If the occasion calls for a tie, then match your square to the tie to create a well thought out and co-ordinated look.
